Afghanistan

This is a recording of my practise in the white space. I was trying to show the publics view of the Afghan war through the medias footage published on Youtube.com. I mixed the audio with trakor scratch and used the Vision Mixer to edit the video live. Any questions just ask.

Kid Koala.

I cannot get enough of Kid Koala, he defiantly rocks my world. He does not conform to modern rules when DJing, which gives him his unique style and original presence. I believe that i could learn alot from how he uses his favourite songs from different genres and his humour to create a story through VJing. His piece 'Moon River' show how amazing he is, to take a slow powerful song and recreate it into a festival winner. I suggest listening to 'Drunk Trumpet' it's a fucking gem. How he uses the turntable with no power to hit the right notes and rhythm. Anyway talking like a twat so i'll stop. Enjoy.

DJ Spooky.

I love Dj Spooky, he helps to show modern culture through history of America. In this piece he use the propaganda film "Rebirth of a Nation'. He is a great performer who dabbles with Hip-hop culture, racial movements, modern America and current art discussions. Very well educated, he lectures at local universities and institutes. A great reference i use in my work.

When researching my Uni work I stumbled upon The Light Surgeons, They are fucking ace. Great style which is unique and straight to the point. Here is a clip that gave me inspiration for my Afghan work.

Blanket's Party - First attempt

This was my first try and mixing VHS live at a house party on Blackness Avenue. Unfortunately not a large amount turned up and i decieded to get smashed out my face per usual. Mike and Rory were DJing and i squeezed onto the table as well. I found it funny that they were using Traktor Scratch and i was using a 10+ year old mixing with BNC connections.

I used old footage of dancing to atomic bombs and a great loop of cassette tapes. But it was a great experience to mix live. I enjoyed it and will be doing it again some time. Actually on Thursday at bottom of Braes. Gonna be fucking awesome (Hopefully).

What you need to do when you don't have a Movie Capture application.

It isn't amazing, but it works fine. I am taking the footage and placing it on VHS so there is no need for any HD stuff. Alot of people ask where i get my footage and i also say YouTube. It's fucking amazing for the most obscure footage but i'm hoping to move on to found and archive footage from the Scotish Film Archive. Thats if they let me.
